What is a Quickporch?A Quickporch is a versitile, modular deck system that integrates decking, hand railing, framing and stair systems. Quickporch products are designed for the manufactured home industry, but they have broader applications. We are a dba of Mitchell & Sons, Inc. and a division of The Deck Superstore. Before Decks(1950s-1980s)Campers and RVsMitchell & Sons has been in business for over 50 years. Harry B. Mitchell Sr. and his two sons started building pickup campers in the fall of 1958. We became incorporated as Mitchell & Sons in 1960 and built pickup campers, fifth-wheel trailers, and class-C motor homes. Manufactured HomesDue to the energy crisis of 1979, Mitchell & Sons turned some of its facility to manufacturing modular homes. By mid-1980, the need for modular units (many were condominiums for ski areas) was in great demand and the RVs were struggling, so we decided to leave RVs and build modular structures full time. The Quickporch(1991-Today)Born from NecessityIn late 1991, Steve Mitchell (third generation of the Mitchells) put together what became known as the Quickporch, a redwood deck kit, which was installed on our new manufactured homes. The Quickporch turned out to be the right product for the fast growing mobile home market. For the next 10 years, we manufactured over twenty thousand of these decks, and installed over half of them in the Denver area. Quickporch sold decks as far away as California, but the vast majority were used here in Colorado. Throughout much of the 1990s, when a factory-built home was set in Colorado, it had a 60% chance of having a Quickporch installed on it. Stair SystemThe Quickporch adjustable stair system was developed shortly after the Quickporch itself and was designed to "adjust" to the custom rise-and-run demands of different sites and deliver a consistent rise-per-tread every time. Our stair was a driving force of much of our success and dominant market share in Colorado. Our stair system influenced the building inspector community and become the new standard of acceptance for entry steps into mobile homes in Colorado. The Deck SuperstoreAs the 21st century approached, we could see the manufactured housing market starting to shrink. We were leasing a good portion of our facility when we lost our main tenant. We decided to use the empty building ourselves and start The Deck Superstore - deck building supplier to deck builders and do-it-yourself homeowners. TodayQuickporch continues today as a division of The Deck Superstore. The product line has been streamlined significantly to deliver simplicity and value to mobile-home setters and entry-deck builders.
